How the figure is worked out

What is left from each visit is the amount you collect minus the cost that scales with that visit. Your monthly running costs divided by that amount, and by the days you see patients, is the number of patients a day you need before the clinic stops losing money each month.

The cash to arrange before opening is your one-time costs plus the cushion you chose, in months of running costs. It is a way to see the total, not a rule about how much cushion a clinic should hold.
