The order is on a scribbled pad, the result is with the technician, and the patient phones to ask if the report is ready. Here is what a joined-up order-to-result flow looks like. A clinic with an in-house lab is not a diagnostic chain. It runs some tests on site, for its own patients, alongside consultations. The usual problem is not the testing. It is the paperwork around it: an order written on a pad and retyped into a separate register, a result the front desk cannot see, a bill on a different sheet from the consultation, and a patient who phones repeatedly to ask whether the report is ready. This post follows one test from order to delivered report and describes how CuraVerto's Diagnostics module handles each stage today. It is written for clinics that run tests in-house, not for standalone laboratories that need a full lab information system. ## Stage 1: The order belongs to the visit In CuraVerto a lab order is placed from the patient's visit and stays linked to it. The doctor does not write a paper slip that someone retypes later, and the lab does not keep an unconnected register. The order moves through defined states, from ordered to sample collected to in progress, and each state change is recorded against the order. ## Stage 2: Result entry and the approval chain Results are entered against the same record. Before a report reaches the patient, it can pass through an approval chain that the clinic configures. The engine supports three modes: auto, single approval and dual approval. Under single approval, a lab supervisor or lab physician approves. Under dual approval, a senior lab physician also reviews as a second tier. A clinic can additionally require a doctor's sign-off before release. If an approver rejects a result, it returns to in progress with a stored reason, and the previous approver's details are cleared so the next person is not recorded as having approved it. Access is role-based. CuraVerto has lab-specific staff roles, so result entry and approval are limited to the people who should do them rather than being open to every login. Regenerating a report, for a legitimate correction, requires a lab supervisor or physician, and the report keeps its document number while a revision counter increases. ## Stage 3: The report is generated and filed When a result is completed, CuraVerto generates a report PDF, stores it in the patient's documents and files it against the order, so the doctor can find it in the same patient record. A stored report can be regenerated if the automatic generation failed. Each order can also produce a link, protected by a signed token, that a patient can use to track their result page; the requisition PDF's QR code encodes that link. ## Stage 4: The patient gets the report on WhatsApp This is the step that removes the "is my report ready" phone calls. When a result is ready, CuraVerto sends the patient a WhatsApp message on the clinic's own number, saying the results for the named test are ready, with a report reference and a link to view or download it. When a report file is available, the PDF is also sent as a WhatsApp document attachment. Two practical details are worth knowing. The link in the message is a signed, time-limited link that is valid for one hour, so a patient who opens it a day later should ask the clinic for a fresh one. And the send only happens when patient notification is enabled for the clinic. The message uses a utility-category WhatsApp template, which CuraVerto meters at ₹0.15 per message. An earlier version of the template had been registered by Meta as a marketing message, which costs more and carries promotional throttling on what is a clinical notice. It was replaced by a utility version. The general rules on that distinction are in the linked post below. ## Stage 5: The bill matches the visit Lab test charges appear as line items on the same GST invoice as the consultation, numbered by the same fiscal-year convention CuraVerto uses for every invoice. There is no separate lab sheet to reconcile at the end of the day. ## What the front desk sees after this is in place - One list of open orders and their state, instead of asking the technician which reports are pending. - Reports filed in the patient record, so a doctor reviewing a follow-up finds last month result beside the prescription. - A stored, numbered report that can be regenerated if the first generation failed, with a revision counter when a correction is made. - Fewer inbound calls asking about report status, because the patient is told on WhatsApp when the result is ready. None of this removes the clinical responsibility for the result. The approval chain exists so that a person with the right role reviews a report before the patient receives it, and a clinic should set the level, single, dual or with doctor sign-off, to match the tests it actually runs. ## Which plan and what is out of scope Lab and Diagnostics is an add-on module for clinics on CuraVerto's Pro or Plus plan. It is not part of the Essential plan and is billed on top of the base licence. Base plans start at ₹24,999 per year for Pro, excluding GST. It is designed for a clinic running some tests in-house, not as a lab information system for a lab chain, and it should not be expected to replace one. ### Related reading - [WhatsApp Utility vs Marketing Broadcast Rates for Clinics](https://curaverto.com/blog/whatsapp-utility-vs-broadcast-rate-clinic-india) - [WhatsApp Prescription Rules in India](https://curaverto.com/blog/whatsapp-prescription-rules-india) - [CuraVerto lab and diagnostics](https://curaverto.com/solutions/lab-diagnostics) ## Frequently asked questions ### Can CuraVerto send lab reports to patients on WhatsApp? Yes. When a lab result is ready, CuraVerto sends the patient a WhatsApp message from the clinic's own number with the test name, a report reference and a link to view or download the report, and also attaches the report PDF as a document when a file is available. The send only happens when patient notification is enabled for the clinic. ### How long is the report link in the WhatsApp message valid? The signed link in the message is time-limited and valid for one hour. A patient who opens it later should ask the clinic to resend it. The PDF attachment sent on WhatsApp is a separate copy the patient keeps in the chat. ### Can a clinic require a senior review or doctor sign-off before a report is released? Yes. The approval engine supports auto, single and dual approval, where dual adds a second review by a senior lab physician, and a clinic can also require a doctor's sign-off before release. A rejected result returns to in progress with a stored reason. ### Which CuraVerto plan includes Lab and Diagnostics? In CuraVerto, Lab and Diagnostics is an add-on module for the Pro and Plus plans, billed on top of the base licence. It is not available on the Essential plan. Pro starts at ₹24,999 per year excluding GST. ### Do I need a separate lab information system for an in-house lab? For a clinic that runs some tests in-house alongside consultations, lab orders, results and billing can live in the same patient record and the same GST invoice. CuraVerto's module is not built for a standalone diagnostic chain, which has different scale and workflow needs. --- Canonical: https://curaverto.com/blog/lab-reports-on-whatsapp-diagnostics-clinic-india Contact: sales@curaverto.com This document is CuraVerto's own description of its product.
